BTEC BUSINESS

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business will give you an understanding of business practice and a broad knowledge of business-related skills. This will be valuable background information in your working life and particularly relevant for anyone involved in management or business. We will endeavour to provide a mix of practical related units that will give you the broadest base of skills to take you further in business.

The new BTEC Nationals in Business use a combination of assessment styles to give our students confidence to apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace, and have the study skills to continue learning throughout their career. The range of vocational assessments both practical and written mean students can showcase their learning and skills to best effect when they take their next step, whether that’s supporting applications to higher education courses or to potential employers.

Course Content


The course involves understanding various aspects of the world of business. The subjects range through The Business Environment to Marketing in a Business to Finance.

The teaching is by experienced, well qualified staff and will include formal lessons, discussions, presentations and internet research.

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business is recognised and respected by employers, professional institutions and higher education establishments. The course is linked well to the requirements of businesses.

Entry Requirements


The course is suitable for anyone who has achieved a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above or its equivalent. There is no requirement to have studied GCSE Business Studies.

Assessment


The course will be assessed in three different ways – through assignments, exams and a pre realise case study task. Assignments are marked internally by teachers and the exam and case study task marked externally by the exam board.

–  Developing a Marketing Campaign
–  Personal and Business Finance

The option units include:

–  Recruitment and Selection
–  Investigation: Customer Service
–  Market Research
–  Work Experience in Business

Financial Information


Students will be required to invest in a course text book and memory stick to use for the duration of the course.

The Academy will not charge for books, materials, equipment and instruction in connection with the National Curriculum or Statutory Religious Education taught at school, except where parents have indicated in advance their wish to purchase the product.

 

Exam Charging Policy:

–  Students with less than 85% attendance may, under the discretion of the Sixth Form Office, be asked to pay for their exam entry.

–  Exam resits that are made at the request of the post 16 students will be charged at full price.

–  When it is not possible to obtain a refund, full price will be charged to students for:

    –  the Summer Exam entry, if they withdraw from the subject after 20 April.
    –  non-attendance at an exam without good reason.

BTEC students, who leave the Academy prior to the conclusion of the course, will be charged £50.

Future Opportunities


BTEC Business Studies is a foundation for a range of Business related courses in Higher Education. It is recognised as valuable by a wide range of employers including finance, banking and the private sector. The student will also gain the skills and knowledge needed to enable them to set up their own business

Students following the vocational pathway will find this course highly relevant and accessible. The course is set up in a way to assess the students business knowledge from the development of coursework projects.
